Now here's something I'd like discussion and input on. What's the difference between "hot", "sexy", "a fox" and "handsome"? It's no joke.
What would you prefer to be called and is there a hierarchy to these terms?
See, I'm a big fan of calling a good look "a fox".
What do you call a good look?

Like the term handsome. Fox sounds like something you'd say about someone you met at a disco....
Hmmm. You're probably right, see, i think "handsome" is a very polite term. Yet if someone's a "fox" I think they have a bit of an edge... even if it is a "disco" edge.
I'd say that you were handsome Muzbot. Again, if I met you at the disco, say dancing to Xanadu at 'The Palms'. Initially I'd see handsome, then depending on your 'edgy' dancefloor moves and sequined slacks, a fox....enjoy your weekend.
In my world a good looking guy is "a dish" and a fantastic looking one is "mint"
I'll just take 'any' guy thank you.
I'm with you Muz, I think of 'handsome' as a polite term, and one that can be devoid of sensuality. A fox does have more edge to it, although it's not one that I think is that commonly used. It's funny but if I think of someone as hot, I just want to have sex with them, but sexy is broader than that for me!
...hhhmmm...
I reckon handsome implies admiration without any sexual intent. Fox implies that you've watched far too many episodes of Starsky & Hutch or Charlie's Angels in your youth.
I'm now at a bit of a loss for a good phrase as an alternative...
Yep, I agree with Campbell and Darth - "handsome" lacks a sexual connotation - it's simply admiring how a guy looks. "fox" - I'd definitely apply it to you Muz, particularly if I saw you dancing to Xanadu at Palms! "Hot" is just physical - as Campbell said, you just wanna have sex! "sexy" - it does involve more - it includes attitude.
I usually reserve the label 'fox' to a sexy woman.
If someone's handsome I believe it's usually based on the persons face.
I get strange looks from men 35+ who I refer to
as being 'cute'...generally does gel well with someone who's obviously trying to be
butch/masculine.
*Note to self: leather, muscles and facial hair
can't = cute.
Then again, I get laughs from mates when I refer
to someone as being a 'total spunk'. Was I
suppose to stop using that term when the 80's
ended?
Marty
I like using "saucy minx". I know it is silly, but it is meant to be playful.
Otherwise, I stick to "handsome". It usually doesn't offend. I use it to say that someone is "good looking". If I know something about their personality I might use "sexy". I never use "fox", unless it is their name or nickname.
I have had the same problem as Marty with the use of "cute". No matter who I use it on ... boy/girl ... young/old. I guess people are concerned that it has some innocence/unworldly connotation.
