Woot!

I have tickets to Grand National. Thank you moshtix and your electronic ticketing goodness.
Who is Grand National? Only just my favourite! You may remember them from such posts as: "Oh my gawd I love this song", and "Oh my Gawd, this is my favourite song right now" and "Gawd, I'm really digging this track." Here's an old track from 2006.

20080602

Those passionate Italians...

were at it again, swamping the track before the race had even been completed.

Mugello is probably my fave race of the MotoGP season. It's a great track and thanks to the crowd, the atmosphere is electric. Rossi once again won this race on home soil sporting a new helmet design that I found very amusing. It was great to see Casey back on the podium with second place and Pedrosa in third.

Once again it was an enjoyable race. The Italian fans would have to be the most passionate. I was reliving the atmosphere in my lounge room. Ahhhh, such fond memories. Next stop - Barcelona.

So where am I at? Random thoughts...

- Well to be honest, I'm at a pretty good place right now.

- I've had a couple of troublesome weeks. Nothing outrageous, just a bit playing on my mind. But those who know me, know that there is rarely a time when one thing or another isn't playing on my mind.

- And so here we are in the southern hemisphere's winter. The first day of winter has been marked with mild temperatures and the odd rain shower. Can't complain, I've got 5 weeks of summer in the northern hemisphere just around the corner.

- I didn't win the 19 mil in Loto, so my holiday won't be extended.

- I'm in my room, alone, listening to the rain. The sliding door is wide open and it's chilly. I've wrapped the doona around me and am distracted by the vista outside my room. The city seems so domestic on a Sunday night. The office buildings are in darkness and only residential towers reflect the rain.

- I miss the feeling of someone in my arms. But my heart's not in it. At night when I go to sleep, I just want to feel someone wrapped in my arms. It's a very tender feeling, yet I'm so distant.

- One of my fave groups are playing in Sydney next Friday night. I'll probably end up going to see them by myself. I don't know anyone else who'd even know who they are.

- I've been obsessive compulsive about washing my hands for the past three months. Since then I've had two head colds all within the space of 4 weeks.

- I think Blondie's "Rapture" is a top song.

- However, this song has been on high rotation in my head this weekend:

Friday haiku...

I'm on the wrong train.

But I always enjoy unexpected journeys, especially on my lunch break.

Who let the dogs out?

There's a question that may never be answered.

However, I had a good Monday night at the footy with Judo. Doggies V Sharks. The Doggies won, but it was a scrappy game. The crowd was entertaining and vocal.

I must remember to take my camera next time because the mobile just doesn't capture the action.

In 8 weeks time I'll be...

The 24hour party people...

are a bad influence. Or maybe it's my encouragement that's influencing them.

I had an absolutely enjoyable weekend. Saturday saw me out and riding my bike for a few hours. It seems like ages since I've been out by myself. I pulled up outside a cafe and decided to stop there for breakfast. The menu had a few good choices on it, but I really couldn't decide, savoury or sweet, so I checked out the specials board. "Carrot, walnut and orange toast" was scrawled down the bottom of the board and that was an unusual but good enough option for me. After placing my order a waitress returned a few moments later with a big slab of cake and proclaimed “Oooo, cake for breakfast? You are a naughty boy!” I was a little surprised but I re-read the specials board and realised that the word “toast” was actually “tart”. D’oh (it was hardly a “tart”). But, I tucked into my cake as others looked on enviously at my bold breakfast choice.

Saturday night was spent with mates and I have to thank Dave for seeing me home safely early Sunday morning after I managed to party just a little too hard. I’ve met some very nice people recently and I’m starting to really enjoy being a little more social.

And now for a song on high rotation from Muzbot's iPod, an oldie but a good tune:
Bossa Nostra feat. Bruna Loppez - Jackie (1999)

20080523

Ooops...

It's going to be one of those Fridays.

This morning I seemed to be on autopilot as I got ready for work. Wakeup, shower, jocks, socks, Hmmmm... what next, iTunes. I need some tunes to dance around to in my jocks for a moment. Next, oh I know, my fave navy pinstripe work pants. "Oh, I like this song." Next ummmm, my Friday Marcs work shirt, no tie, it is Friday after all... (who am I kidding, I never wear a tie, I'm a designer).

Skip forward 15 minutes... I've got off the train and heading up the escalator at the train station, iPod filling my head with Betty Boo, and I'm feeling the cool breeze around my ankles as I step up each step. "That's not right" I think to myself. No, not the fact that I'm listening to Betty Boo, but my ankles. D'oh, I had totally put on the most wrong socks and not even realised it. Short running socks. So I almost burst out laughing at my own "dumbness". Upshot of this is at least I'm ready to run out the door this arvo after work.

20080522

The book meme...

I've done this meme once before and am more than happy to do it again. It's lunch time at work and I'm grabbing the book closest to me. Here are the rules:

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.*
3. Locate the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences on your blog and in so doing...
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged me.
*note: Page 123 has a full page image, so I'm doing the opposite page - 122.

"I love traveling by train. During my journey through Australia I made the Indian Pacific railroad trip from Perth to Sydney and was awed by the visually stimulating landscape. After traveling for two days in the outback and visiting towns in the middle of nowhere, we got out to stretch our tired legs at Broken Hill, New South Wales."
- Lonely Planet Blue List 2008.

Now the people I'd tag have already been tagged (it's so incestuous!) so I'm leaving it open for you to take up this meme on your own back. Go on, and let me know if you do. I was tagged by my regular blog stop over: Buffalo Void.

1-2-3

Count the number of Yamaha's on the podium at Le Mans. In my world that's called a "whitewash"!

Rossi first, Fiat team mate Jorge second and Edwards from Team Tech 3 third. It was another interesting race with rain threatening to create drama in the final 10 laps. This was also the first race that I can recall where a rider's chain broke mid race. I had always thought a broken chain at high speed would have caused more carnage but it was rather uneventful as the chain snaked its way across the track out of harms way.

Where is our lad Casey Stoner? Bike problems for both him and team mate Marco Melandri must be heart breaking. Last place finishers.

Well, that's according to my WiiFit. It seems not only is it fun, it's damn accurate!

What's the difference?

Now here's something I'd like discussion and input on. What's the difference between "hot", "sexy", "a fox" and "handsome"? It's no joke.
What would you prefer to be called and is there a hierarchy to these terms?
See, I'm a big fan of calling a good look "a fox".
What do you call a good look?

One of my fave blogs...

has a post I would like to share.

I know some of you "white people" out there who this applies to...

I think there's something in this for all of us...

Saw a Muzbot in the mirror when I woke up today
A
Muzbot in my mirror but I did not run away
I did not shed a tear or hide beneath my bed
Though the
Muzbot looked at me and this is what he said:

He said "Wubba wubba wubba wubba woo woo woo"
Wubba wubba wubba and a doodly do
He sang "Wubba wubba wubba" so I sang it too
Do not wubba me or I will wubba you

Told the
Muzbot in the mirror, "No, I am not scared"
Then I smiled at him and thanked him for the song that we had shared
Well, the
Muzbot thanked me too, he smiled right back and then
The
Muzbot in the mirror sang his song again

He said "Wubba wubba wubba wubba woo woo woo"
Wubba wubba wubba and a doodly do
He went "Wubba wubba wubba" so I sang along
Yes, wubba wubba wubba is a
Muzbot song
Wubba wubba wubba is a
Muzbot song

If your mirror has a
Muzbot in it, do not shout
This kind of situation does not call for freaking out
And do nothing that you would not like to see him do
'Cause that
Muzbot in the mirror he just might be you

This morning I felt like a local...

I was feeling the effects of a late night this morning and couldn't really decided what to have for breakfast. All I knew was I didn't want some expensive salty breakfast in a cramped cafe. So I wandered around the fountain in Kings Cross to the weekly Saturday markets.

I decided on a bacon and egg roll from one of the stalls because a line that long couldn't be wrong. I sat down on the wall near the grass and people watched for a while. The morning sun was fantastic. Within minutes I started to see people I recognised. Some stopped to chat while others just waved from the distance. My breakfast roll was such a tasty treat.

I've not really lived in an area where you could just bumped into people, but I'm liking this.

20080509

Awesome Duuuuude.

Man, I'm going to have to seriously train hard if I'm going to do this. Somehow I think I'll be the "sissy mary" pushin' it up that rock.

Warts and all...

I have a head cold. Tonight I wanted to put up a pic of me just as I am today. Ready for bed. I know it's only 8:30pm, but I just want to sleep now. Red itchy eyes, runny nose and a big throbbing headache.

Thanks to those who have offered well wishes for my father. And I appreciate all the good vibes being sent my way too. Life's challenges are meant to be dealt with and every now and then a smile makes it all manageable.

BIG hugs to all.

20080505

Crazy times...

and scattered brains.

I've been a bit unsettled recently. I guess that's why I haven't been blogging regularly. I'm not in the habit of spilling my guts here on this blog. I mean, let's face it, who needs to read about someone else's "problems". It's tedious. Soooooo very tedious.

So anyway, I had an enjoyable weekend. But it was erratic. Up and down my mood swung. I wanted to do this then wanted to do that. I've even been avoiding riding my bike. I just can't concentrate enough. My family is playing on my mind. I'm very close to them. I got a sweet txt from my little sister which nearly brings tears to my eyes. No wait, it DOES bring tears to my eyes. The smallest things are making me feel over emotional right now. I'm thinking a lot about my Mum and Dad. Dad's not well. This has been a bit of a shock to our whole family. He's a good man and this is not part of our script of life.

I'm heart broken. Totally. This is effecting every decision. It's effecting my head-space. I'm wanting to keep to myself, yet I'm wanting to be amongst friends and crowds. I'm pushing people away from me, yet these are the same ones I want to draw close. So there it is. That's been my past 6 weeks.

20080502

What's unusual about this photo?

Maybe if I put it into context it might help. Now, it's no secret that I don't mind dining out. It's also no secret that the establishment doesn't have to be 5 star. BUT, when I go to the loo, I do expect to be able to, at the least, not have to move the wheelie bin, a vacuum cleaner and other bits of debris to stand at the urinal.

Funnily enough, the food was simple, good, cheap and I'll be going back for more... go figure.

20080430

Where's your head at...

Here's what's currently on high rotation in my head at the moment. I had planned to do a podcast of these, but I don't think a 1 minute snippet of these songs really do them justice. I may even update this playlist occasionally.

All shapes and sizes

Last weekend I spent time wandering the Botanic Gardens. Very relaxing, educational and fascinating.

ANZAC Day...

could just be a more important national day than Australia Day. The city swelled this morning with crowds and the best part was that not one single shop was open, just pubs and cafes. Today is actually the first time I have experienced the ANZAC parade in Sydney City and I could not help but feel an amazing sense of pride and admiration as I reflected on the many meanings of war and its effect on us all.

While I was standing there in the rain my thoughts then turned to comfort food (as I tend to do). I was thinking about how good a fresh batch of ANZAC biscuits would be. I remember them from when I was a child and my Mum protecting the biscuits from little fingers as the hot baking tray was pulled from the oven. Everyone knows that the best time to eat one of these biscuits is when they are still hot and chewy. I reckon a mobile van with an oven freshly baking these for the punters would have just been fantastic on this cool, damp and grey Sydney ANZAC day.

It's not real if you don't feel it...

Can you imagine this song as a ballad? I close my eyes and I can...
It's easy to forget the original and to understand the intent in the lyrics.
Maybe sung by a sexy, sweet husky voice accompanied by an acoustic guitar?
That's what I want to hear as I drift off to sleep.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Here we are
Hanging onto strains of greed and blues
Break the chain then we break down
Oh it's not real if you don't feel it
Unspoken expectations
Ideals you used to play with
They've finally taken shape for us.

What's good enough for you
Is good enough for me
It's good enough
It's good enough for me.

Now you'll say
You're startin' to feel the push and pull
Of what could be and never can
You mirror me stumblin' through those
Old fashioned superstitions
I find too hard to break
Oh maybe you're out of place.

What's good enough for you
Is good enough for me
It's good enough
It's good enough for me.

Un film de Cedric Klapisch...

Last night I went to the movies to see "Paris". I totally loved this film. The cinematography, the story and the soundtrack* made this truly enjoyable.

10 Questions that require answers...

or maybe they don't/can't:

1. Do you think many people move past the "parent/child" relationship and become good friends instead of "parent/child"?
2. Should one ever feel bad for having lusty thoughts about someone who is so untouchable?
3. Even after being cut out of someones life is it ok to want to still say "hi" to them even though you know you won't get a response?
4. Is it bad to want to show-off just a little or say "Hey, look at me!" to someone?
5. Would it be wrong to sometimes just want out of it all?
6. Why do I still dig my fingernails into the armrest each time I takeoff in a plane, yet I love it so?
7. Why should I crave the company of people who are strong, decisive, passionate and who fire me up to join them on their roller coaster of life?
8. Why do I think grey and orange is a great colour combination?
9. How can I make my majorly large public art sculpture idea a reality?
10. Why is it hard for me to follow my own advice?

Sitting and listening...

is always a good thing.

Last night I was in my parent's lounge room when a news story came on the telly about a new exhibition containing artworks by D'Arcy Doyle. It is hosted by his wife, Jennifer. Mum piped up, "Oh look, it's Aunty Jenny."

I always knew I was related to the Doyles in some way but my father's side of the family is rarely spoken of. There are quite a few name changes and it's always been difficult to trace a linage. So, I always enjoy it when Dad recalls stories of his youth. It's always an insight into a man who is both a parent and a friend.

Dad went on to tell me about a time when he was living in Thomas St, Ipswich and how when he was a lad D'Arcy was over at his place and showed an interest in some of Dad's drawings. D'Arcy took the time to give Dad some pointers and tips. It was really cool to hear this story. I've always seem Mum and Dad as creative people and it seems that creativity is a streak that runs deep in our family's blood.

The Bone Ranger...

and friends entertained me today.

I visited the Australian Museum toady and spent many many hours wandering around the collections and exhibitions. Museums fascinate me. Best ten bucks spent all day.

If you haven't been for a while, go on a quiet weekday (when there's far less impatient children) and wander around and be amazed at our natural history and environment.

Breakfast was...

quietly enjoyable.

Well, quiet apart from the too close for comfort table next to me:
He: Gosh you make me smile. (I mean really? Who uses "Gosh" in real life?!)
She: I know. I see it when we're together.
He: Do you think others around the office see it?
She: They have no idea.
He: That's so cool.
She: I love the way it feels like we're doing something wrong behind a teacher's back.
He: See, you just keep getting more and more attractive. I feel like that too. You're too beautiful.
She: (Slightly gushing) My current boyfriend would never tell me that.
He: Rubbish. How could he not?!

It gets even more Mills & Boon from this point on, so I'll just leave the rest of that conversation right there.

20080410

What year am I?

1987

Wild, over the top, and just a little bit cheesy. You're colorful at night - and successful during the day.

So true. Actually, one of the questions in the quiz really gave me a good laugh:
9. What's your favorite comfort food?
- Meatloaf
- Pop Tarts
- Mac N Cheese
- Redbull and Vodka
- Fondue

No prizes for guessing my answer.

Dinner was...

so freakin' tasty! Tonight I discovered "Doma". The bohemian beer cafe right on my doorstep. Apart from the nice half litre of various beers available it serves up traditional Czech and Slovakian cuisine. Tonight's chef special was chicken stroganoff. I really love strogs so it was my choice without even looking at the menu.

What better way to end the meal than with profiteroles, icecream and an absinthe, or two, or three, or... I even gave the lesser known "red" absinthe a go... However, I think I'll stick with the green stuff from now on, mmmmm minty fresh.

Oh, and here is the dinner conversation from the table next to me:
He: So c'mon Hon'. What shall we order for a main? There's so much to choose from.
She: Ummmmm...
He: What?
She: I'm not really hungry.
He: You're joking right?
She: No, I don't feel well.
He: Oh for Christ's sake. Here I am taking you out for dinner and you don't even appreciate it.
She: I'm sorry. But you go ahead and order.
He: Forget it! .. Why would you spoil tonight like this?
She: I'm sorry.
He: (Skulls* beer) Come on. We're leaving.
The first course still sits on the table untouched.

*Australian slang: Skull (a beer) : to drink a beer in a single draught without taking a breath

Guilty pleasure #14...

Wednesday haiku...

Sunday was...

fun.

Early morning start. Judo, Dave and I went to the central coast for a bush walk. We decided to do the Bouddi National Park coastal walk. On the walk we searched out some Geocaches and discovered some amazing views and headlands along the coast. The bays were beautiful.

Then, back to Sydney for the night to go to the Opera House to see a performance by the French band Air. Many people don't know them by name, but their music is probably well known. Here's one of my fave videos. It's the first time I've been in the concert hall of the Opera House and I thought it was pretty special. Air rocked!

Finished off the night with a couple of beers and a boogie.

20080405

In summary:

There were many roads like this. Great for touring bikes, not great for sports bikes. But the country air was fantastic.
But, on a sports bike, signs like this excite.
Signs like this are scary. Did you know that Kangaroos are stupid stupid animals?
The Jumbuck Motor Inn. One of the many typical roadside motels in one of the many typical country towns.
I love visiting country Chinese restaurants. Every country town has one and they always seem to have the word "Wah" or "Sing" in their name. This is the "Sing Wah" in Tenterfield. Classy joint. Vinyl features heavily here. The tables have the menus sandwiched under a clear vinyl tablecloth - on top of a pretty country patterned vinyl tablecloth. It always amazes me how these towns, in the middle of nowhere, have king prawns on the menu.
I found the grave of "Thunderbolt".
Tamworth seemed overrun by overgrown toy cars in mint condition. There were 7 of these Thunderbirds parked around the hotel I stayed in here.
Stopping off at Cunningham's Gap. This is an amazing place. The sounds of the forest just blew me away. It was an early crisp morning and I was in no hurry to leave this magical place.
My old school. My nieces now go to this school. It was weird walking around the school grounds as an adult. Every thing now seems sooooo small.
Another country town, another country Chinese restaurant. I was on the verge of laughing at the fantastic flavour of the combination chop suey. I could not put my finger on what was giving this dish it's taste - I'm guessing it was laced with lashings of MSG. The walls were faux wood panels, the carpet was rich red in colour and the lights were amazingly detailed red fringed lanterns with the odd chunk of grey dust.

I enjoyed my time out on the road. There was, of course, much more to the trip than I can post about without boring the socks of you. But I loved hanging out with my family. I love catching up with old friends. I loved making new friends. I loved stopping on the side of country roads and just sleeping next to my bike on grassy patches. I love the time I spent by myself, doing my own thing, going where I wanted, when I wanted and staying anywhere I pleased. It was fun.

A quick post on the run...

because I'm still on holiday and still relaxing (just).

MotoGP - Jarez was run last night and it was one of the most entertaining races this season... ok, it's only the second race of the season, but it had it all. The funniest part of the race was when Rossi raised his hand in victory to claim second place, only to realise he still had another lap to go. Made me laugh. I was very happy to see two Yamaha riders on the podium.

Speaking of Yamaha - My bike is currently in the workshop getting a post crash checkup. Yes, I had a slight "off". I came to grief on a sandy corner. There are a few scratches on the bike, a tear in my new backpack and a mighty big scuff mark on the right shoulder of my jacket. Awwwww. :( I must have damaged the fuel line, just after the fuel pump, and yesterday while I was riding it to a safe location the fuel gushed forth and covered me in premium unleaded. I don't think I panicked, but I did jump from the bike onto the nearest patch of grass to make sure there were no flames. A slight bit of smoke but all was good. Phew. 24hours, a check-up and 3 showers later I still smell like petrol... yes, there was a hell of a lot of fuel covering me.

20080327

My roadtrip continues....

Actually, this is probably a bit of a surprise: I forgot to mention I'm on a few weeks holiday. Me and my bike have taken to the highway and headed north.

And here's something you probably didn't know about me: I have a bit of a thing for an interest in bushrangers. Part of my trip is to head into bushranger country and visit some of the smaller country towns and trails that were made famous by these outlaws. One I am particularly interested in is Captain Thunderbolt. I mean, with a nick name of "Thunderbolt" you'd have to be a pretty damn cool criminal. This took me off the main highways and into some small dodgy towns and onto some even dodgier roads. Not great riding for a sports bike.

Thunderbolt was known for his horse breaking skills. He was a gentle and courteous man. He also knew how to steal a horse or two. His thefts landed him imprisoned on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour. He escaped (from what was supposedly un-escapable) and continued his life on the run as an outlaw in the New England area. This is where I spent the last few days. The landscape around this area is beautiful. There are rolling hills, wild forests, volcanic ranges and open plains. Not easy territory for criminal activity unless you are a skilled rider and know your escape routes like the back of your hand. I stopped off at the Thunderbolt Hideout. This area is isolated, heavily forested and I loved stopping here. It really gave me a bit of a thrill and a tiny part of me felt a kindred spirit here. Weird.

20080322

Yes, it was a good Friday...

despite waking up with a rather large pain in my brain/hang-over. I seriously didn't think I drank that much. And so begins the post in which I talk food... again.

Discovery day #1.
Went and had breakfast (or greasy meat platter) at a small cafe called Vinyl. Sat in the window and watched kids play handball on the street while slowly sipping a sweet hot chocolate. Autumn arrived yesterday morning.

Wandered the streets and bays. Sat and watched the stingrays fossicking in the sand for food.

Lunch consisted of Pork and Apricot Rissoles on Corn Fritters. YUM. Grabbed these from DOV. Dov was busy, noisy and that is the way it always seems to be. The corn fritters were more corn than fritter and that's just how I like 'em. But way too much rocket. I mean really, a plate of rocket is enough to make even a vego turn to meat. Vile.

Dinner. Fu Manchu.
Was unsure about this one at first, the menu was Asian, but I couldn't quite peg it down to any particular region and it didn't have the usual fare. But inside were a few hip people in their retro track suits and fine dark rimmed glasses which suggested to me that this was my sort of place. So simple, so unpretentious and very tasty. I'd never had steamed Pumpkin Dumplings before and they were a winner.

Ladies, check out the lovely evening top above... yes, real dead birds. Very fucking cool.

20080320

Ok, bored now...

My previous header was annoying me...

20080319

It's very moving.

I'm very impressed with the view from my new bedroom (pictured above). There is a nice belt of green streets and parks between me and the wall of city towers.

It's a very weird feeling moving to a new part of town. I keep feeling like I'm a tourist in a foreign land. There is a different set of people, unfamiliar sounds and I haven't a clue which restaurant is going to dish up the best food. My task now is to discover.

Last night I left the building and walked the streets in search of food. They were buzzing with neon lights and people. I came to one of the many Thai restaurants. Pad Thai is the dish I judge a Thai restaurant by. I grabbed take-away and headed back up to the roof of my new apartment block. I can see me enjoying beers up here on sunny afternoons. *Mental note, I need a new esky.

This was a good move. I smile and feel VERY happy with my decision - except for my choice for dinner. Not great, was like noodles, chicken and tomato sauce. But that too is a good thing... I now can continue the local search for the restaurant that makes a good Pad Thai.

20080318

Holding back the years...

1. My all time favourite photo. Mum and me.
2. MMMmmm cake batter.
3. My parents raced greyhounds. This one's name was Tiger.
4. Scrub up all right, don't I?
5. The 70's were cool.
6. The 80's were cruel. Angry young man waiting for a cab. But check out the dude in the background! What's he come as? Yes, even his shoes were white!.

20080317

Fortunes favour PtII...

Well, this morning I was feeling particularly down. The removalists are arriving in 2 hours time, and I've still got a cupboard of stuff and no boxes left to pack it into. The kitchen looks like a bomb has hit it and I just CAN'T WAIT for this whole damn move to be over and done with. I'm still trying to figure out how one man, who doesn't like reading, manages to accumulate so many books!

So, not having time for breakfast this morning, I'm now starting to feel a little hungry. What do I spy, just sitting there in its golden wrapper? The fortune cookie. So, that's what I dive for and open. Yeah, I'm hungry and yeah, it's not really going to fill me up.

My fortune:
"Your hard work will soon pay off"

Duh. Like I never knew that. Stupid cookie.

Not really a suprise...

You are Helvetica.
You exemplify the modern urbanite. You are minimalist in style, committed to "clean lines" and restaurants with names in all lower case. You aspire to live in a loft, and when the lease expires on your Jetta you plan to get a Prius. Each time you fly you have someone plant a tree to offset your carbon emissions.
What type are you?

It's pretty much right, except for the Prius bit. Prius drivers tend to slip the "Oh, I drive a Prius" into every conversation as if they should be canonised. Jerks. But yes, I offset my flights.

Although, I'll go one step further and say I'm more a
Helvetica Neue Ultra Light.

Fortunes favour?

So I guess I'm superstitious. Earlier this week I went out to dinner and had dodgy Chinese. I love a meal in a tacky Chinese restaurant. It reminds me of my childhood when "going out to dinner" meant the family piling in the car and driving 3 suburbs away for the local Chinese restaurant.

I ordered the traditional Lemon Chicken and Sweet and Sour pork. And it was vile. Judo and I didn't even make it through half of the food before we both looked at each other with that look of "I'm going to be sick". There was more deep fried batter on the chicken than chicken itself... and it only tasted of oil. So anyway, here's my dilemma:

What am I supposed to do with the fortune cookie? You see, I've not had the most fortunate of fortnights, so I don't want to tempt fate by opening the cookie. It's still sitting there on my cupboard taunting me. My question is: Is the fortune valid only from the point when you crack it open, or is it your fortune, no mater what, from the moment you take possession of it, open or not?

All I can think about is an episode of Rocko's Modern Life where Filbert opens his fortune cookie and it reads "Bad luck and misfortune will infest your pathetic soul for all eternity".

And we're off...

and racing.

The 2008 season of MotoGP kicked off this morning with a win by Young Australian of the Year, Casey Stoner. This was the first race in the history of MotoGP that had been run under lights and at night.

New rider to this class, Jorge Lorenzo, finished second and was a very impressive rider. Another new rider, Andrea Dovizioso, also had an impressive debut by out riding Rossi to finish 4th.

I'm just a little excited about this season as there are new riders, new team compositions and very fast bikes to watch. The thing that I like most about MotoGP is the bikes. Unlike the Superbikes, these bikes are all non-production bikes and are purpose built racing bikes. They are constantly under development and always making improvements that one day might just make it to a production bike.

1. Which blog has been on your current blogroll the longest? Allconsuming. - and good friend.
2. Which blog is the most recent addition? Man of Lettuce - Being a cab driver in Sydney must be a difficult job, but also entertaining.
3. Which blog sends you the most traffic? Much Ado About Monty - Thanks buddy. :)
4. Which blog has the best design? Team Emu Draft - Well, not yet, but I have been asked to re-design, so it will have soon. :) But actually, I love heading to Buffalo Void.
5. Which blog has the best title? The Superficial - because you're ugly
6. Which blog has the best images? Drawn! - Because I love illustration.
7. Which blog has the most self pics? Nigel Barker - and other pics too.
8. Which blog is most similar to yours? Now this is a tricky one. I don't talk about (or rarely talk about) relationships, dating, work or politics... Hmmm, that rules out most blogs I read. I'll just pass on this one. They are all interesting in their own ways.
9. Which blog is most different? The work related blogs. eCommerce Cache. Interesting huh?!
10. Which blog is most political? At the moment it seems to be Contextual Musings
11. Which blogger posts most often? This has to be The Superficial... but it is pap.
12. Which blogger do you wish posted more? How Great is Cake? - Sorry DG, but I wish you did. Your posts make me smile and I love the way you write your thoughts down.
13. Which blogger lives closest to you? Monty - but in 2 weeks time it'll be someone else. Who's in the Cross?

19. Who’s the best kisser? What? ME of course. Oh, you want to know which blogger is? Well, keep wondering.
20. Who’s the sexiest on your blogroll? Do porn stars count here? I'm not publishing those details.
21. Who’s the most athletic? IntlAunz - Him and his partner Amy are so inspirational to me.
22. Who’s the tallest? No idea.
23. Who’s the shortest? No idea.
24. Who’s the strongest? No idea either. Let's say Bobby Vanquish. Why? Well, I just wanted to make sure I mentioned his blog somewhere, so here is a good a place as any. I enjoy reading his blog quite a lot.
25. Who’s the youngest? ??? No idea once again.
26. Who’s the oldest? Someone For Me

29. Which blogger would be the life of the party? Darth Gateau - I'm with Monty on this one, he IS the life of the party!
30. Which blogger would you go shopping with? h&b - Melbourne style. Actually, probably not shopping, because I'd not put anyone through that ordeal with me, but maybe a coffee somewhere. She's got a great vibe.
31. Which blogger would you go hiking/camping with? I'm trying not to double up here with bloggers. Minkered.
32. Which blogger would you have coffee with? Damn, I answered that one already. I would like to have a coffee with Mike.
33. Which blog makes you laugh the most? I'm going to have to double up here again. Bobby Vanquish doesn't necessarily make me laugh out loud, but he does write with good humor... actually, I'd enjoy a coffee with him too... actually no, more like a few drinks with him.
34. Which blog is the most heartwarming? Heartwarming is not a word that describes any of my regular blogs. But trust me, I do read some good blogs, just not "heartwarming" ones.
35. Which blogger do you think is the best cook? Hey Mum I'm Hungry - technically it's not doubling up.
36. Which blogger would you most want to meet your family? Oh this is just stupid now. Seriously, I don't know why I even bothered with this post.

I do have a lengthy blogroll and every blog on it I read for all sorts of reasons. Some I read for martini recipes, some for eye candy and martini recipes, some for cultural reasons, some for humor, some for art, some for just keeping up with what's going on in their lives.

Those domestic Gods...

are they happy with me or cranky? I can't figure it out just yet, but either way, I'm on the move.

Everyone knows how much I love this little place where I live but the time has come, albeit a little sooner than I had planned, for me to stride face first into the winds of change.

Recently I've been thinking more about my future and one component of that is my living arrangements. The forces have aligned this week and the opportunity may have just presented itself for a mutually beneficial move... and I'm forced to act quickly.

Part of me is oh-so-mightily excited and yet the other part is a tad sad. Oh look, I rhymed.

It took 12 months, but it finally happened...

tonight I turned on the oven AND used it.

Fun...

Today I had a fantastic day. It was just one of those days where I loved Sydney so much.

My bike was still out of action this morning because I needed a new rego holder so I jumped on Judo's bike and took it for a little bit of a spin. I enjoy riding a different bike to mine every now and then. When I saw Judo's bike in the bright sunlight I decided that both his and my bike needed some TLC so I washed and polished both our bikes. Niiiiiiice and shiny. My bike looks so hot right now (So, as you can see, my idea of fun is not the same as everybody else's).

So, to show them off we went for a ride north up to Mt White and the Road Warriors Cafe. I LOVED this ride. I was totally into it... (and usually I loath this ride. There's often too way many tossers on this road). Judo had the co-ords for a couple of geocaches around the Mt White area so we pulled over and went bush to find them. The search took us to a very cool escarpment strewn with large boulders. Amazing scenery, isolation, high cliffs and BIG rocks. I was in a little piece of heaven. This just seemed like a perfect afternoon. The weather was perfect, we laughed, we tested our riding, we went exploring, I joked around (see pic... me striking a pose) and Judo joked back.

To top it off, I have just had a good catch up with Mum and Dad on the phone. The best part: Dad sharing a story about his biking days that he hadn't shared before and me sharing one of my stories with him. I just love it when Dad and I chat like that. I know he still has a few more stories up his sleeve.
